At the bottom of the responses panel, you can toggle between multiple quick views:
- First open answers displays the first open text answer of the response
- Choose to show all answers including empty answers or excluding empty answers
- If you’re collecting feedback in multiple languages, view all responses translated into English for easier analysis all at once
BETA feature
Add a filter to your workspace to view all responses based on a specific sentiment at the answer level.

- In the Data tab, choose which open text questions to add to the tile. The tile will only show responses from the questions you select. Email type questions can’t be selected for these key visualization types.

Visualization Types
There are four types of visualizations you can use to analyze your open-text responses:
List View
The list view visualization shows all responses from your open-text question, organized with your most recent responses at the top. You’ll see the date and time the response was submitted, the response, and either the question identifier or question text, depending on which platform you sent your form with.
The footer of the tile shows how many questions are represented in the visualization, as well as how many total answers you’ve received.
TIP: This tile type is best used if you want to focus on specific open text answers, without the need to filter your workspace by forms to view specific responses in the Responses side panel.
Top Key Words
The top key words visualization shows you the most mentioned words from the questions you select, as well as how many times the words were mentioned. Click the + next to a word to see related words from your responses. In the example above, this means that “cardio” and “love” were mentioned 307 times together.
If you want to see responses from only people who replied with a specific word, click the bar chart next to the key word. This filters all of the tiles in your workspace, not just the one you’re working with, so you can see how those particular words relate to your other CX metrics and individual responses.
The tile footer shows how many questions are represented in the visualization, how many total answers you’ve received, and lets you filter by language if you’ve collected responses in multiple languages. You can click the arrow on the right side of the tile to expand the footer and see more information on the displayed questions.
Display options:
- Select which languages to display on your tile, including the option to translate all languages to English.
- Choose a color for your visualization
Top Key Phrases
The key phrases visualization shows you the most mentioned key phrases from the questions you select, as well as how many times the phrases were mentioned, giving even more context to your customers feelings.
You can click the + next to a phrase to drill down and see related phrases. If you want to see responses from only people who replied with a specific phrase, click the bar chart next to the key phrase. This filters all of the tiles in your workspace, not just the one you’re working with, so you can see how particular phrases relate to your other CX metrics and individual responses. The tile footer shows how many questions are represented in the visualization, how many total answers you’ve received, and lets you filter by language if you’ve collected responses in multiple languages.
Display options:
- Select which languages to display on your tile, including the option to translate all languages to English.
- Choose a color for your visualization.
Contextual Sentiment
BETA Feature
The contextual sentiment visualization uses SurveyMonkey’s machine learning model to automatically categorize the sentiment behind the most identified words or phrases in your responses, based on the context of the entire answer. Responses are organized by sentiment group: positive, neutral, or negative.
Click the + next to a word or phrase to drill down into the results, and see related categories from your responses. You can do this by key word or phrase, or based on sentiment. If you want to see responses from only people who replied with a specific word or phrase, click the bar chart next to it. This filters all of the tiles in your workspace, not just the one you’re working with, to see how particular categories relate to your other CX metrics and individual responses on the side panel.
If you want to see the responses from only people who replied with a specific category that was classified as a certain sentiment, then you can drill-down into the word and sentiment to filter the workspace. You can also just filter by the specific category by clicking on the word or phrase.
The tile footer shows how many questions are represented in the visualization, and how many total answers you’ve received. You can click the arrow on the right side of the tile to expand the footer and see more information on the displayed questions.
