Running an exit survey allow you to gain insight into why users are leaving your web page and gain feedback as to their experiences with the site. This may be extremely valuable in increasing your conversion rates.
Exit surveys can be achieved with either a Full Survey or a Slide-out Survey. Detailed guides on how to create these types of campaigns can be found on the linked page. Here we show you how to set either of these surveys to run once they detect a visitor is leaving/exiting.
Create a new Campaign
On the Campaigns overview page choose 'New campaign'.
For an exit survey, you'll need to create either a Full Survey or a Slide-out Survey. For this guide, we will be using a Slide-out survey
Proceed through the campaign builder as normal and add any questions you want to ask you, visitors, exiting the page.
Once at the visitor targeting stage, you can choose to set this campaign as a true exit survey. First, make sure that you've selected 'Show your survey to certain visitors.
Next, you will need to turn on the 'Visitors potentially exiting the page after..' setting. Turning on this button will make sure that the feedback button will detect when the user's mouse pointer leaves your web page and prompt them with the survey soon after - dependent on how long you choose.
You may also select further targeting options to run alongside the exit prompt. Keep in mind that all targeting options are using an AND operator, meaning that all targeting criteria have to be met before the campaign will be prompted.
Finish creating your campaign, save and activate your campaign to see you exit survey in action. When you go to the page where you have the button with the linked campaign, the user will be prompted with your exit survey when the mouse cursor leaves the web page.
